About San Juan, Philippines

San Juan is located on the South China Sea coast, in the west of the province of La Union, on the island of Luzon – one of the 7,107 islands that make up the archipelago of the Philippines.  It sits 5 miles north of San Fernando, the capital of La Union, and 177 miles north of Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

The town dates back to 1582.  The population of the town is 35,098 (2010 census).

La Union, and in particular San Juan, is considered to be the surfing capital of the northern Philippines, with waves reaching 8-10ft on a good swell.  It therefore sees an influx of tourists during the two surfing seasons of July to October and November to March.

Agriculture is also important to the economy, with yellow corn being one of the most important crops.
